The 14th Annual, 2018 Provincetown Jazz Festival will be held on August 9, 7:00pm at The Crown & Anchor in Provincetown and on August 13, 7:30pm at Cotuit Center for the Arts.
For 13 years the Provincetown Jazz Festival has presented jazz musicians from the United States, Canada, Brazil, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. This year we will feature the Tim Ray Trio & Daryl Sherman in Cotuit.
Tim Ray Trio
Tim Ray (piano) is best known as long-time pianist for Lyle Lovett and has appeared on over 75 recordings including his just released Trio CD “Windows.” Tim has performed with: Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Gary Burton, Esperanza Spalding, Phil Woods, Scott Hamilton, Boston Pops, and many more. Tim has toured throughout the Americas, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and this has included performances at Carnegie Hall, the White House, the Kennedy Center and appearances on the “The Tonight Show,” “Late Night with David Letterman,” “The Conan O’Brien Show,” “Austin City Limits,” and many other national TV and radio broadcasts. Tim is a member of the Steinway "family" and endorses Steinway and Sons pianos and has been on the Steinway artist roster since 2005. Tim will be accompanied by John Lockwood on bass and making his festival debut, Mark Walker on drums. All three are on the faculty of the Berklee College of Music.
Daryl Sherman (vocals & piano) opens the concert and was born in Rhode Island but has been part of the New York City jazz scene since the mid 70s. In addition to jazz clubs and her renowned 14 year run at the Waldorf-Astoria where she played Cole Porter's Steinway, Daryl has performed with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Artie Shaw's '80s band with Dick Johnson, and guested frequently on Marian McPartland's NPR Piano Jazz. She tours the UK and has also been doing concerts and master classes in Japan, Berlin and Holland. Daryl has performed and recorded with: Dave McKenna, Bucky & John Pizzarelli, Ruby Braff, Ken Peplowski, Howard Alden, her dad, trombonist/bandleader, Sammy Sherman, and many more. The New York Times says, “Impeccable, delightful, swinging, signature jazz sound, a stylistic compendium of Billie Holiday and Blossom Dearie.” Daryl will be accompanied by Bruce Abbott on sax, Ron Ormsby on bass, and Bart Weisman on drums.
