Jessie Nickerson is a native of Cape Cod where her family settled in the early 1600s. In 2000 she received her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, and went on to study painting at Parsons School of Design where she earned her MFA in 2003. She is influenced by the classic illustrations of Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, and Maxfield Parish, the oil paintings of J.W.M. Turner, and the prints of Hokusai. Nickerson works with ink, watercolor, and acrylic to create surreal images that combine elements of nature, internal musings, and fairy tale iconography.
